CGRHD – SEGA vs. NINTENDO STREET FIGHTER 2 review Part 2
Part 2 of 2. Review of the Sega Genesis STREET FIGHTER 2 vs. SNES STREET FIGHTER 2... Classic Game Room starts a war! A 16-bit conflict between the Super Nintendo video game console and the Sega Genesis video game system. Street Fighter 2 by Capcom is one of the greatest fighting games ever made and single handedly brought people back into the arcades in the early 1990's to battle each other in this smooth, stylish 2D fighter. Although SNK and other companies had some fighting games out there, it was Street Fighter 2 that made the biggest splash. Consequently it was ported to the leading game consoles of the time, the Sega Genesis (or Sega Megadrive) and the Super Nintendo SNES. Although they are very similar on both game consoles, there are subtle differences between the two that are fun and interesting to point out in this informative head to head comparison review. Graphics are slightly difference, sound is very different and fortunately the gameplay is similar. Are you a Sega Mega Drive fanatic or an SNES fanboy... doesn't matter. We can all agree that Street Fighter 2 is awesome and that we're all waiting eagerly for Street Fighter 4 from Capcom. Will Street Fighter 4 see a revival on any Sega game consoles or the Nintendo Wii? Will is be the supreme fighting game on the PS3 Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 game platforms? Who can say, but this look at the 16 bit era is a lot of fun and Street Fighter 2 from Capcom gets a great review from Classic Game Room. Check the ...

Man, the genesis has AWFUL sound… Snes seems to play/look a bit smoother.
@KingNative1
I second that since I had, played, and dominated in both. Snes version allday!!!
Snes version allday!!!
the sound was very distracting in the sega version
@NEOexSOLDIER becoz sega has blast processing
I would choose the SNES version, because of the six button stock controller. Normal kids would rather get a game system and two games, opposed to getting a game system, a different controller and only one game. (Assuming the SG did not later start releasing their system with the six button controller.) However, regardless of limitations, 80% of the time the SG did look better. I am also assuming Blanka's defeat screen was toned down for the same reason blood was removed from MK for SNES.
good review, very even-handed
The reason why the Sega graphics were "Sharper" and "Contrasty" was not on purpose but a result of graphics limitations. It couldn't handle a large colour palette. SNES had a much wider colour palette per screen. The audio quality on the SNES was also superior.
It's too bad, because Sega made great games and I always think these classic 2D games could have reached their full potential if they patiently waited a couple years for console technology to catch-up before releasing the Genesis.

Genesis has more 3D effect on parallax scrolling. Look at the trees, they're moving when Chun Li jumps.
@Donstheman not unless he's talking about the 6-Button Genesis Pad.
@Donstheman Thinking about doing special moves, The sega would be a LITTLE Easier… gez it's just a controller…
if streetfichter was released on genesis in 91 it would,ve been a seriouse compeater against the snes,but since the game was released 2 years later in 93,it was allready too late cuzz nintendo allready had won the war.
Sega controller better than the snes controller? You just went full retard son.
Turbo G.. PC Engine is the best graphically second to the Arcade
@WrathOscuro
I agree, back when I was younger I was a huge SuperNES fanboy but now that i'm 30, i've come to appreciate the Sega Genesis more. The FM tunes and all. The SuperNES's digital soudns are indeed muffled and it's annoying. It's just too bad the Sega Genesis didn't have a slightly more powerful PSG chip or the digital sounds wouldn't have sounded so "tin can" like. However later generation digital sounds on the Genesis sound really decent and clear.
God, I hated Sagat! >.<
Just wondering, am I the only one who prefers even the audio to the Sega Genesis version? I never liked how muffled the SNES version sounded.
make justin bieber vs freddie mercury review, we all know freddie owns bieber, but i want to hear your jokes about bieber!
man one's got better picture and the other better sound. why can't i have them both in one game, oh wait i can, so screw choosing those systems when Xbox and PlayStation got them both
@NEOexSOLDIER The Genesis timer counts down faster as well. Maybe they're not set at the proper corresponding game speeds, though I doubt that affects load times.
street fighter 2 the animated movie is awesome though
@InecomCompany By Street Fighter 2 movie do you mean the live action or the anime?
street fighter 2 wasnt avalible on the megadrive when i bought my snes, it wasnt on the megadrive for a while
I hate the audio quality of the genesis version.
I like the genesis better. The controller made all the difference IMHO. It also seemed to play a lot faster. I always found the SNES version a tad sluggish.
Sound was definitely better in the SNES.
