Classic Game Room – SEGA DREAMCAST vs. MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY 2
Classic Game Room HD reviews a competition between two video game console powerhouses, the SEGA DREAMCAST vs. the MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY 2. Which gaming system is the winner, the Sega Dreamcast or the Magnavox Odyssey 2? Watch this detailed review and find out. The Sega Dreamcast is a popular game system that was released in North America in 1999. The Magnavox Odyssey 2 is a classic cartridge based game console released in 1978. In some ways these two game systems could not be more different... in some ways they could not be more alike. The Sega Dreamcast has Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur and Chu Chu Rocket. The Magnavox Odyssey 2 has KC Munchkin, KC's Krazy Chase, War of Nerves and Invaders from Hyperspace. Each game console costs about today, used, and games are readily available and frequently inexpensive. Sega is well known for the amazing array of arcade titles, machines and game consoles like the Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Megadrive, Game Gear and Sega Saturn. Magnavox is known for.... televisions. Maybe they made boom boxes too, and lots of other stuff. This is an interesting and entertaining look at two video game consoles with short life spans. It didn't have to be that way, and it doesn't. You can buy the Dreamcast, Odyssey 2 and stacks of games for a fraction of the price of a new PS3 or Xbox 360. Classic Game Room loves classic retro systems as much as the new ones, and this competition of Sega Dreamcast vs Magnavox Odyssey 2 is one of our finest ...
Classic Game Room reviews the Japanese Sony Playstation 2 model PS2 SCPH-90000. If you want to play games like Thunder Force 6 and Front Mission 5 you need a machine that can play them, and American PS2's just won't do the trick. You really only have 2 options, modifications or importing a Japanese PS2. CGR decided to purchase a new Japanese region NTSC 100v PS2 from Play-asia.com with a heaping jar of pocket change and play Thunder Force VI like it's our job (it is). There are tons of import titles available only in Japan for the Playstation 1 and PS2. For some reason (money) these game companies make certain genres region locked or encoded and contain them to market specific parts of the world. They assume that Americans don't want to play Japanese SHMUPS like TF6 or Macross Plus or strategy games like Front Mission 2 and FM5. They thought wrong! We do want to play these games and although not cheap, it's not like you have to cut your arm off either. Importing a Japanese region NTSC Playstation 2 has never been easier or less expensive. This SCPH-90000 works on American AC power and plays games just like a US PS2. You can even set the system menus to English, and most games seem to have English menus anyway. Works with American PS2 memory cars. This review shows the differences between a Japanese PS2 and an American PS2 and how they stack up side by side. DREAMCAST FTW!
dc 02 rules
i like your weird comparisons!
@AwesomeMcKillington
That wasn't a reference to the NES in any way.
"Now you're playing with power!"
@dkabot It had power, but the third-party developers weren't in the mood to play with power.
@AwesomeMcKillington
Hey! The Gamecube was the most powerful system of the last generation!
whta version of atari 2600 is that
You're both wrong, the Dreamcast lost to the PS2. Nobody won, but we all know Gamecube lost.
and to bad gamecube lost to xbox
LOVE THE DREAMCAST too bad it lost to the gamecube
@DehnusNorder My cousin even says that he wished it lasted longer. I probably would've too
@ranchboy1000 erm..i still have my snes from 1992, working flawlessly, i still have my ps1 from 1996 working flawlessly….ive got an xbox 360 from 2008 , broken, got a ps3 from 2006, working flawlessly…
@438bloody I would rather still have the dreamcast, shitty thing is that when i get my new place i want to have one of the rooms dedicated to like vintage tech and gaming, nice big plasma or LCD tv with a nice entertainment center that houses all the old systems from atari all the way down to what ever is current, now i gotta go buy all this shit all over again
sega dream cast is better than the no2
DC f.t.w
Pfft this isn't a fair comparison. The Dreamcast pwns all Consoles! It is the Jesus of Consoles, it even gave it's life for the sins of Console gamers as it's most trusted friend (It's parent company) betrayed it.
Yes I am a member of the Church of Dreamcast, may his spirit be reborn into all of us before he will come again during the day of judgement … now congregation repeat with me "SEGA!"
lol thexter has a MITSUBISHI logo near the _02
@SuperSonicBoom010 sonic wins
@thugdoutDUNN your lucky you at least got money for yours, my parents sold it thinking after we got the PS2 that it was a "old console that nobody played" which was bullshit.
(( I miss you dreamcast…I still have fond memories of playing Crazy Taxi and Hydro Thunder on it…those games were the shit…
you forgot the SG-1000.
and the sonic adventure 2 has been ported to the gamecube….
@Valt101, Up yours! The Odyssey 2 was released in the early 1980s. What do you expect?
@silverperzon they sayed if they hit a blockbuster they would be more than willing to make a new one
The Magnavox game is smexing up that Sega!!!
@silverperzon SEGA is SONY. But I wish they still had sonic games.
@silverperzon Totally Agreed.
@Axel1797 lol i it almost seems japans in the process of switching there language to english but not completely there yet, like my golden axe 3 game has completly enlgish text, there is not a single in-game japanese character, but the box and instructions are in japanese oddly enough!
My PS2 Is Japanese but the instructions are in English…
Glad the PS3 came out with region free games; you can import games from Japan or anywhere and they will work with no trouble. Though it seems not a lot of people know this, or the fact that it's backwards compatible with PS1 game.
the one from japan looks just like my german one^^
playstation 2 the king off videogames!!!!
i've got an old version of the ps2 console :p
@yodanielu Cheap Mexican!
what for games the ps2 can play online
the gray console is the latest model on ps2 is SCPH -900xx, it is available PAL and NTSC, it,s designers gave up the external power suplly, and put it inside the console, that cause the console to heat up rapidly but it is better ventilated to, anyway i prefer the black one wich is SCPH- 770xx, in my country we put MODchips in our consoles, it is very eficient, is region free, autoboot, it don,t need swamp disks, we can write our own DVD-s, instal diffrent soft on the console, see mouvies,etc
'The japanese PS2 unsurprisingly came with japanese instructions'
That made me laugh hard.Great console review (and humorous!)
"If you combine them,you get Thunder Force 11" LOL!
@AL1NO3 his wifes an atari 2600
In Mexico we have the magic card… So in here I can plan any game, else the one of Europe :0)
I have that bank too!!!
i got a ps2 or $20 with 20 games and works
How much for the Japanese PS2 Slim? If it's less than the price of Swap Magic I'll just buy a separate console.
is your wife a gamer?
A television!?
@dvdlogitech I got a fat PS2 for $5 at a yard sale, and it works.
that "japanese" ps2 is just the ps2 9000 i think and you can buy thm in canada where i live for 100 dollars canadian at futureshop
You play the Japanese PS2 with a TV and you connect it with a line lol
lol i liked that
"it even smells japaneese!"
@roberteats
he totally does sound like him haha
um…. that canadian dollar isn't what we use now- it became obsolete in the mid 80's.
